  • Huawei Woos Malaysian App Developers To Join Its Own HMS Through Huawei Shining Star Program

USD$1 billion has been allocated to provide key support for app developers

It’s obvious that Huawei is going all out to win Malaysia’s favour. Not only have they launched the Huawei Mate 30 series in Malaysia first after China, they are also going all out in wooing Malaysian app developers to join the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) ecosystem by making Malaysia the first country to globally be part of the Huawei Shining Star Program.

The program aims to encourage global developer innovation, in which Huawei has allocated up to USD$1 billion to be invested globally and provide key support for app developers. This includes one-point access and intelligent global distribution for all terminals in all scenarios such as gaming, education, smart home, health related app and others under this program.

Huawei even has a HMS Integration challenge, in which app developers who complete the challenge of completing HMS Integration, get it to work in Mate30 EMUI environment and get it published on Huawei’s AppGallery before a certain time will get some big prizes including cash. For example, if app developers complete the challenge before 31 October 2019 they will get a MYR500k Awards Package with MYR250k for ATL resources, MYR200k at media resources and MYR50k cash. The integration should be completed by 3 man-days according to Huawei.

The HMS core systems is built to be as familiar as possible for both users and developers, being equipped with necessary tool kits for messaging, notifications, in-app purchasing and more. Huawei claims that there are over 43,000 apps available in the HMS ecosystem as of July. Locally, apps such as Fave, Astro Awani, The Star, Dim Sum, Sunway Pals, RHB Now and more have successfully integrated into the HMS.

Huawei has even awared MYR30k scholarships each to University of Malaya and Universiti Teknologi MARA to encourage local institutions to build a talent pipeline and ensure industry-ready talents for app development.

All in all, Huawei is going all out in getting Malaysia to be a part of Huawei as much as possible, especially since the Huawei Mate 30 series does not and cannot have any Google Apps on its system.

To complement the all-scenario ecosystem development, Huawei Malaysia also unveiled other new products such as:

  • Huawei x Gentle Monster Eyewear, Smart Jackbye -01 (RM1599)
  • Huawei x Gentle Monster Eyewear, Smart Eastmoon -01 (RM1599)
  • FreeBuds 3 (RM729)
  • Huawei WiFi Q2 Pro (RM499)
  • Huawei WiFi Q2 Pro Satelite (RM169)
  • Huawei WiFi WS5200 (RM169)
